As a result they prevent the gravel from shifting or settling unevenly. There are several benefits to using a gravel grid:
- Improved stability: Gravel grids provide a stable base for the gravel to rest on. This helps prevent the gravel from shifting or settling unevenly.
- Erosion control: Gravel grids help prevent erosion by stabilizing the surface of the gravel and preventing washout.
- Reduced maintenance: Gravel grids help reduce maintenance by preventing the need to constantly grade and level the surface of the gravel.
- Increased durability: Gravel grids are designed to be durable and long-lasting, which means they can help extend the lifespan of a gravel surface.
Overall, gravel grids can be a good solution for anyone looking to create a stable, durable, and low-maintenance surface using gravel.
What is a gravel grid capable of holding?
Gravel grids are designed to support the weight of vehicles, including cars, trucks, and tractors. The specific weight capacity of a gravel grid will depend on the size and type of the grid, as well as the type of gravel used on top of it.

How many grids and how much gravel do you need?
Prior to starting your project, you must calculate what is needed. The APAL Products gravel grids measure at 50cm x 50cm and have a thickness of 40mm. 4 of our gravel grids make up 1 square meter. The example below will show you how to calculate the required amount of grids:
For example, you have a base of 3 meters long and 4 meters in wide.
- Firstly you must calculate the surface area. So, 3 m x 4 m = 12 sqm
- As 4 of our grids make 1 sqm, we must multiply the surface area by 4. So, 12 sqm x 4 grids = 48 grids.
- Please note: we recommend measuring in meters for accuracy. However, if you are measuring in feet, it can help to round up to the nearest 0.25m or 0.5m. This will ensure you don’t cut the measurements short via direct conversions.
